Metals

Stainless Steel is the material most selected by our customers. Global Stencil utilizes 300 series stainless steel. Typically 301/302 stainless steel is purchased per AMS-5517k/ASTM-A-666-00. In most cases the condition used is "Full Hard, "tension leveled". This enables the stencil to maintain a smooth, flat posture that "gaskets" well with the circuit board during the printing process. Stainless steel is much harder and resists coining better than other common materials such as Alloy 42 and withstands the harsh cleaning agents used to clean solderpaste from the stencil. It is also able to be electro-polished to aid in solderpaste release and transfer.

Invar, also known as Alloy 36 has become a material of choice among our customers printing micro bga, ultra-fine pitch and other applications where standard stainless steel stencils do not deliver enough paste volume because of aspect ratio issues. An alternative to electro-formed stencils, Invar Stencils, allows our customers to manufacture their product successfully and not incur the cost and extended delivery times of expensive electro-formed stencils. This material is a Nickel/Iron, low expansion alloy in a Hard condition. Click here for more detailed information on this exciting metal.
