Global Stencil is proud to have recently invested in an upgrade to our Lumonics ScreenCut Laser System. Although this upgrade was an expensive investment, it was made in an effort to keep Global on the front edge of stencil and custom parts technology. As part of our Continuous Improvement Plan, (ISO 9001-2000) we have required ourselves to continually look at our processes and strive to improve them for our customers. 

The upgrade was actually a change in the laser itself to a Spectron SL650T 2kHz laser. The reason for the upgrade was threefold. Some of our customers have requested stencils or custom parts made of materials thicker than the .012” that the standard 1kHz laser is comfortable cutting. The new upgrade allows us to cut up to .030” foils with the same ease and with improved wall smoothness . Second, the new laser is faster than the existing system giving us the opportunity to schedule more jobs in the same machine time. Third, and most impressive, is the machine life of the laser.

While the existing lasers work at a 90 – 95% of maximum power rate, the new upgraded laser works at considerably less power for normal cutting operations. The result is less down time for maintenance. This combined with the speed of the laser has proven to be the best justification for the upgrade.
